July 4th - Annual 5K race and Freedomfest
A long-standing tradition in Greenwood is the Chamber of Commerce annual 5K Race and the community Freedomfest on the Square on July 4th each year. The community-wide old fashioned picnic and games begins early in the morning with a pancake breakfast at the Masonic Lodge and a 5K run. Following the run, the square is filled with music, games and food booths. People of all ages enjoy the day, especially the opportunity to visit with friends and meet visitors and new comers to the town. Freedomfest has earned a reputation of family entertainment. No alcohol is allowed and food booths are sponsored by non-profit organizations. This event is made possible by donations of money and time by Greenwood area businesses. Freedomfest is organized by and benefits the Sebastian County Boys and Girls Club
There are winners of all ages during the annual Freedomfest 5K run. More than 200 people come each year to run in this fun spirited event. Check with the Chamber for exact times and dates.
Fall and Winter
September - City Wide Yard Sale - Third Saturday of the Month
The City Wide Yard Sale has become an annual event for the Chamber and local residents. People come from all over to look for bargains at over 100 different yard sales throughout the town. The Town Square is transformed into yard sale heaven by local non-profit organizations that use the space to have yard sales to raise funds for their group. This event is a big economic boost for the City of Greenwood.
One of the highlights of the year is the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet in October. The banquet gives members an opportunity to get together and meet the new board of directors and offices. One of the long-standing traditions of the Chamber is to recognize a Citizen of the Year.
Each year a committee takes on the hard task of choosing among many deserving citizens to receive this award. This award is a small token of thanks to people who over many years have contributed to the betterment of the community. Many past Citizens of the Year have been influential in the lives of youth, volunteered hundreds of hours each year to non-profit organizations, and/or have been a long-standing leader in Greenwood.

Santa is on hand after the parade to visit with children.
