Annual EventsLate Spring/Early SummerLate spring or early summer the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce sponsors a "Golf For Fun" tournament. All proceeds from the tournament are used to help the Chamber with its annual projects. More than 66 people from local businesses and the community compete each year. Every participant takes home a door prize, winners receive plaques and everyone has an enjoyable day of golf and networking. For event dates and information contact the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce. A co-sponsor for the event is AEP and Pepsi. July 4th - Annual Freedomfest on the Square in Greenwood A long-standing tradition in Greenwood is the Chamber of Commerce annual Freedom Fest on the Square on July 4th each year. The community-wide old fashioned picnic and games begins early in the morning with a pancake breakfast at the Masonic Lodge and a 5K run. Following the run, the square is filled with music, games and food booths. People of all ages enjoy the day, especially the opportunity to visit with friends and meet visitors and new comers to the town. Freedomfest has earned a reputation of family entertainment. No alcohol is allowed and food booths are sponsored by non-profit organizations. This event is made possible by donations of money and time by Greenwood area businesses. There are winners of all ages during the annual Freedom Fest 5K run. Hundreds of people come each year to run in this fun spirited event. Check with the Chamber for exact times and dates. September - City Wide Yard Sale - Third Saturday of the Month The City Wide Yard Sale has become an annual event for the Chamber and local residents. People come from all over to look for bargains at over 100 different yard sales throughout the town. The Town Square is transformed into yard sale heaven by local non-profit organizations that use the space to have yard sales to raise funds for their group. This event is a big economic boost for the City of Greenwood. October One of the highlights of the year is the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet in October. The banquet gives members an opportunity to get together and meet the new board of directors and offices. One of the long-standing traditions of the Chamber is to recognize a Citizen of the Year. Each year a committee takes on the hard task of choosing among many deserving citizens to receive this award. This award is a small token of thanks to people who over many years have contributed to the betterment of the community. Many past Citizens of the Year have been influential in the lives of youth, volunteered hundreds of hours each year to non-profit organizations, and/or has been a long-standing leader in Greenwood. One of the largest Christmas Parades takes place in Greenwood. Thousands of people turn-out for the evening. This is more than just a typical Christmas parade with a few floats and Santa. Prior to the parade Greenwood businesses donate food and drinks to given away free. The parade, brightly lighted, travels down Main Street and has consisted of more than 80 entries. Santa is on hand after the parade to visit with children. These are just a few of the events sponsored by the Chamber. Watch the calendar
