National Forests

Greenwood is nestled between two of Arkansas most renowned national forests the Ouachita and Ozark National Forests. Together these forests provide some of the most beautiful scenic touring that Arkansas has to offer drawing visitors from miles around year after year. Hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, as well as hunting and fishing are just some of the activities that can be enjoyed over the course of the year.

Ouachita National Forest

Ouachita National Forest comprises over 1.6 million acres of hiking, camping, scenic byways, float streams, fishing, hunting, and rockhousing. Originating in central Arkansas and extending in to southeast Oklahoma this national forest offers popular sightseeing landscapes drawing people from miles around. Some specific points of interest are the Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area and the 65,000 acres of designated wilderness area.

The wildlife living in Ouachita NF is as abundant as you will find anywhere. Supporting flora and fauna of varying species make this forest a spectacular sight any time of year.

Ozark National Forest

The Ozark National Forest comprises an area of more than one million acres in northwest Arkansas extending into eastern Oklahoma. Established on March 6, 1968, by Presidential proclamation this forest is home to more than 500 species of trees and plants. Activities available to patrons include hiking, camping, boating, fishing, hunting, and picnicking.
